Tunis is Mad Tonight is an extraordinary biography of New Zealand journalist Douglas Brass, a man you may not have heard of, but after reading this book, you will find his remarkable 40-year career utterly fascinating. He reported on significant world events, including World War II and post-war Europe. He established himself as a respected royal correspondent, and later, his robust columns were extremely influential in opposing Australia’s participation in the Vietnam War, after he played a major role in establishing The Australian.

He was a well-respected and prominent journalist, but also very private and reserved. This is the first time there has been a significant biography. Written by a family member with access to records and other information, this is a well-written account that brings Douglas Brass to life. And what a life, reporting his unique view on some of the events from the most turbulent eras in world history!

Tunis is Mad Tonight is highly readable, and author Peter Cox reveals a man who loved his home and family but was never backward in criticising anything that wasn’t right. The book also brings to life the eras he lived through.
