There have been three volumes of The World’s Worst Children by David Walliams, but now the tables have turned, and David brings his attention to the World’s Worst Teachers!
In David’s introduction he tells us there are ten stories, and they are the ‘most loathsome collection of grown-ups ever. These teachers are every child’s worst nightmare. So read on, if you dare.’
The first story is about Mr Pent’s Balls, and Mr Pent is a math’s teacher who’s every waking moment is taken up with his obsession with balls. He has a deep loathing of them, that goes back to hm being hit in the head by a demolition ball when he was a child. So Mr Pent bans all balls, but then he starts banning anything spherical, like marbles, gobstoppers and peas. It all goes too far when he locks a boy with a very round head in the cupboard, and all the other children in the school have to take action to stop his tyranny!
Another favourite story is about Miss Seethe as she fumes that the headmistress is about to celebrate 50 years in the role, where as Deputy Head Miss Seethe dreams of being the top dog. The celebration sends Miss Seethe on a detention rampage!
And the story about Mr and Mrs Lovey-Dovey, who force the entire school to go to their nine hour wedding, and then watch it again and again on video in class, is also a standout!
With colour illustrations throughout by Tony Ross, The World’s Worst Teachers is a trademark David Walliams book with hilarious humour and situations that children will relate to.
