Jeremy Burfoot is a retired pilot with 23,000 hours of flying between over 100 countries under his belt. He lives in New Zealand and has written a book that I’m sure many people will want to read. This book takes you behind the scenes about what really happens when we fly on a plane.
This book answers all the questions you might have about flying. We get to learn everything from knowing how a plane stays up in the air, what happens when you flush the toilet, what pilots do when the plane is on autopilot, and what the cabin crew do aside from the obvious things like serving drinks and food. There are also sections about a fear of flying, jet lag, medical emergencies, the weather and things like turbulence, and inflight emergencies. Really, everything you have ever wanted to know about flying is in this book.
In my opinion, this would be a good book for anyone who has a fear of flying to read, as it will show how safe air travel is, and it is an eye-opener into how much constant training pilots and the crew have to do. The book is in easy-to-read sections, so if you want, you can just jump to the things you really want to know, and leave the rest – but you are most likely to want to read it all!
The Secret Life of Flying is written in a really engaging way, with lots of humour, but also lots of insight and information. It’s a book I’d recommend to anyone wanting to know more about flying, and you will definitely know a whole lot more after reading it.
