The Little Witch Who Lost Her Broom by Elaine Bickell

Little Witch has lost her broom and needs to find it by the rise of the moon so she can take to the skies with the other witches for Halloween. To speed up her broom hunt, she tries out a number of methods of transport, including scooter, digger, train and plane, which lead to a series of misadventures.

This is a fantastic companion book to author Elaine Bickell's The Little Ghost Who Lost Her Boo. She uses the same almost-faultless rhyme to tell a funny story with a lovely twist at the end. Repetition and plenty of onomatopoeia make this a book younger readers will love to join in with. It makes for a lovely read-aloud book.  While a couple of sentences are a little imperfect, adult readers will likely be swept up by the younger one's excitement of the story.

Illustrator Raymond McGrath's artwork is quirky and brings the story to life. There's so much to spot within the pages - from jars of eyeballs, bats on leashes, and of course, the Little Witch's broom. Gloom the cat's subtle detail is perfection, and there's lovely little hints of Bickell's earlier book.

Perfectly timed for Halloween, this is a fun read, no matter the occasion.
