As you can guess from the quirky title, this book is all about cookies, and within the colourful pages there are more than 80 recipes for every type of cookie you can imagine. After a very helpful introduction that covers things like how to get your cookies perfectly round, a run down on ingredients, and tools of the trade, the recipes are divided into four sections:
The Basic B*kkies. This section has recipes like Scottish shortbread, ginger cookies, peanut butter cookies, chocolate chip cookies. These are classic recipes that you can make with the kids. Most of these are fairly easy to make.
The Quirky Cookie. These are cookies that are ‘fun, flavoursome and frivolous’. So the recipes are more complicated than the first section of the book, but include some standouts bakers will be keen to try. Anyone for Apple Pie Cookies, Strawberry and Cream Bar Cookies, or Lemon, Lime and Bitters Bars?
The Classy Gal. This is baking with ‘hints of fruits and florals.’ The Maple Shortbread Leaves are pure class, as are Apricot Pistachio Crumble Bars, and the Limoncello Spritz Bars.
Finally, there is The World Traveller section. This has treats from around the globe: Cashew Kourabiedes, Italian Crostoli, Rugelach and Polish Kolaczki.
Some of my Best Friends are Cookies is fun and fabulous. This is a great addition to anyone who would like to do more baking, and for those who already belong to the ‘cookie club.’
