No One Will Know by Rose Carlyle

Writer's picture: NZ BookloversNZ Booklovers

After foster homes and travelling the world, Eve finally feels she has found love and a safe anchor with her boyfriend, Xander. But then her world is abruptly shattered when he dies in a car accident before he has introduced her to his wealthy parents. Rejected by them, she is utterly alone – and newly pregnant. Her options are few, but she is determined to have her baby.

Then she meets a woman at Xander’s grave, who introduces herself as the private secretary to a distinguished family who live in remote Tasmania. She tells Eve that Julia and Christopher are looking for a nanny – so if it works out, she will have a home and an income as she has her baby. When she meets the glamorous couple, they make her a lucrative job offer, and she thinks all has worked out well.

But as time goes on, many things don’t add up. She is kept hidden out of view, and with no contact with outside people, it seems some of the activities are not what they seem. Just what has she got herself into? Never has she been more isolated and alone…

No One Will Know is a breathtaking, twisty read that is so suspenseful I read this novel in one sitting. It’s a claustrophobic read, with characters that jump out of the page and an atmospheric setting. At the heart of the story is a young woman trying to do her best for her child. But she is adrift in a world where ruthless people are ruled by greed and will do anything for themselves, no matter the consequences to others.
