Alice in Cakeland by Alice Taylor

From MasterChef New Zealand star Alice Taylor comes a delectable baking book with over 60 recipes for every occasion. The recipes are surprisingly easy and affordable, but the results are deliciously decadent, and the photography is mouth-wateringly good. Fancy a Raspberry Sour Cream Cake, Salted Caramel Brownies, or an Apricot and Cardamom Crumble? Who says you can’t have your cake and eat it too?

Other stand-out recipes for our family include:

  • Savoury Muffins - the author made this recipe, with the help of her dad, when she was only 11 years old. It has stood the test of time well!

  • Blueberry and Brown Butter Muffins - so easy to use frozen blueberries for this recipe!

  • Chocolate Crepes with Burnt Orange Caramel and Fennel Cream - oh la la!

  • No Pressure Bread - just as the name suggests.

  • Garden Cake - it relies on any of the fruits and vegetables that are in season.

  • Baked Vanilla Cheesecake - it is not surprising to hear that fights in the family have broken out when someone (usually her older brother) has finished off the last slice.

  • Sticky Toffee Pudding - so delicious and easy to make.

  • Biscuit Fudge - reminds me of my own childhood and a similar recipe, so a lovely touch of nostalgia.

This is an excellent baking book - in summary - go buy a copy to make these fabulous recipes yourself!
